POSTINFECTIOUS INTRAVASCULAR THROMBOSIS WITH GANGRENE AFTER PENICILLIN INJECTION

Abstract
Cyanosis, hemorrhagic bullae and gangrene on buttock, extremity and lower abdominal wall following intramuscular penicillin injection in children with infectious disease are a rare condition, and "postinfectious intravascular thrombosis with gangrene" has been applied for this disease entity.
The mechanism is still unknown, but many authors have explained that a diffuse vasculitis with arterial spasm-intraarterial thrombosis-hemorrhage-gangrene are principal.
At this time, injection of penicillin may act as a trigger mechanism in the evolution of an underlying allergic vascular disease.
We experienced 2 case under one year of age.
One patient. died of concurrent severe pneumonia¢¥ and one patient losed right foot due to dry gangrene.
